Changing my Surname

PSA! I have officially changed my surname, Soong, back to my birth surname (aka maiden name), Gan, as of this week! YAYYYY!

Actually, I wanted to change it 5 years ago, when I left my ex and started life anew, finally free from over a decade of abuse. However, changing your surname in the middle of frequently traveling internationally for destination weddings was not going to work well with passports/accounts and I had been known professionally as Soong by that surname. So I kept it for many more years than I should have, although I didn’t identify with it.

Since I am not traveling (intentionally) for a while due to my final clinical practicum this year, I was able to change my surname to Gan at this time. It was surprisingly easier than I thought – I just had to show my birth certificate for most of the government accounts. My business name will remain Elaine GreenPhotographer. I’m still in the process of changing my name with the banks and other accounts, but I feel ridiculously happy about changing back to my birth name ^_^
