So I was sitting at my computer one night really wanting to go to Japan. And also at that instant I felt like photographing a fashion shoot.
It’s these small instances of inspiration that drive to do things outside of the ordinary, such as compose a song with lyrics, or completely reorganize my closet and donate half my wardrobe away to follow a more minimalist life.
But I wanted to see the vision right away, a Japanese-inspired shoot and I didn’t have an available model just standing right there, nor did I have any interesting attire, but I did have a kimono I bought at Japantown in Los Angeles.
So I did what I usually do. Do a ghetto self portrait with my camera and minimal lighting setup.
I don’t need much gear to achieve what I’m envisioning, but if I did have more gear, costume, models, makeup, etc, it would be lovely for sure.
Here’s a set of shots I took in less than 10 mins. Of course the hair and makeup took a bit longer!
Photo Exif: Canon 5DmkII, 24-70mm, f5, 1/125, ISO400, 600EX 1/16
Skincare: Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Face Wash, Pauala’s Choice BHA 2% liquid, Mizon Snail Repair Intensive Ampoule, Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence.
Makeup: BRTC BB Cream, MUFE Full Cover Concealer, Innisfree No Sebum Mineral Pact, MAC Impassioned Lipstick, Cargo Catalina Blush
Hair: Kerastase Resistance Volumactive Spray, Kerastase Styling Lift Vertige Root Lifting Gel
More self portraits, or fashion shoots to come! I have some neat ideas that I want to try out!!
Cheers, Elaine
